The best setting for ripping/converting Blu-ray to Kindle Fire

Travel with Kindle Fire – need help
I’m on a flight to the UK soon and want to get some of my movies (mainly blu-ray movies) on Amazon Kindle Fire for the flight. Tried some Blu-ray rippers but all creates HUGE files- 10GB+ for one movie. Would some one please advise a easy-to-use yet suitablet ripper for Kindle Fire? I would be pleased if I can compress a Blu-ray to 1.5-3GB and still keep 720p HD quality. Any suggestions?
As far as i know, it’s not the Blu-ray Ripper, but the preset format that affects file size. Below is the best format settings per my experience for ripping Blu-ray to Kindle Fire:
Resolution- 1280×720 (HD)
Sampling rate- 44.1khz
With the above settings a Blu-ray movie can be compressed to 1.5-2.5GB depends on the movie length. As to Blu-ray ripper, I recommend Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper for Kindle Fire mainly because it allows you set format settings to get desired file size and quality. And other Blu-ray rippers let you rip Blu-ray only but this one rips both Blu-ray and DVD. I tried four Blu-ray video encoders and it is the only one that converts h.264 video without sync issues. If you have CUDA compliant graphics card installed, the ripping speed could be fairly fast.
It took me a while to find the settings but all turned out fine. The Blu-ray Thor results in a .mp4 file of 1.8GB, and the converted Blu-ray videos plays stunning pictures on my Kindle Fire. The Blu-ray to Kindle Fire Converter is on sale at the Pavtube’s Christmas Promo Coupons through Dec. 5, 2011 if you choose this option.
The process is straightforward. Insert the Blu-ray(or DVD) disc, run and load Blu-ray movies to the Blu-ray Ripper for Kindle Fire, then click “Format” bar and select a MP4 format for Kindle Fire playback. After everything’s set down, click the big “Convert” button to start Convert Blu-ray/DVD to H.264 mp4 video for Kindle Fire.
Customize best settings for Kindle Fire
Kindle Fire plays MP4 and VP8 video only, so you’re suggested to choose “Common Video>> H.264 Video (*.mp4)” format (or “Nook Color(*.mp4)” from “Android” category) . The format exports 480p .mp4 video with pretty good picture and compresses a 100min Blu-ray movie to 2-3GB. In that case the Kindle Fire holds only 3 or 4 movies only. To down-size output file, you can click “Settings” and set lower bitrate as mentioned at the beginning of the article.
If you’d like to put 10 movies to Kindle Fire, set video bitrate down to 1000kpbs so that a 100min movie would be reduced to around 800M. Note that when you lower bitrate, you lower video quality meanwhile.
Pretty Simple. After transfer and copying the converted Blu-ray movies to Kindle Fire, you can experience and view Blu-ray 1080p movies on Kindle Fire with 720 HD quality anytime and everywhere. Have fun!

Mac Blu-ray to Playbook-Play Blu-ray/DVD movies on BlackBerry PlayBook under Mac
Best setting for playing Blu-ray/DVD movies on PlayBook?
Is there a way to get Blu-ray and DVD to play on my BlackBerry PlayBook via the Mac? I’ve copied a DVD movie to my playbook tablet, but the device does not recognize the file. What file extension does playbook play? Does it play .vob and. mts files from DVDs and Blu-rays? And what’s the best setting for ripping these disc movies for playbook?
RIM has provided a “Supported Media Types on BlackBerry Tablets” sheet to detail playable video and audio formats for BlackBerry Playbook. And you can see vob and mts is not there. This means the BlackBerry PlayBook can’t directly hold both Blu-ray and DVD movies.
Blackberry Playbook supported formats:
.3gp, .3g2, .m4a, .m4v, .mov, .mp4, .avi, .wmv, .wma, .mp3, .aac, .f4v, .wav
Blackberry Playbook acceptable codecs:
H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, VC-1, VP6, AAC, PCM, WMA, MP3
As far as I know, the best solution is to convert Blu-rays and DVDs before transferring the disc movies to Blackberry Playbook on the Mac. We just need get some help from the third-party software. An easy-to-use yet reliable software, entitled Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper for Mac is recommended here. Specially designed for Blu-ray video zealots who use Mac OS, the Mac Blu-ray/DVD to PlayBook Converter allows you set format settings to get desired file size and quality. And other Blu-ray rippers let you rip Blu-ray only but this one rips both Blu-ray and DVD. Designed for fast speed and negligible video quality loss, this amazing software is your best choice for Blu-ray ripping.
I have tested with H.264 encoded videos (480p, 720p avi, mkv, avi clips from Blu-ray and DVD rips), and successfully copy them to BlackBerry Playbook. However, when I disconnect Playbook with PC, I can never find the videos- Playbook will not recognize MKV! Yet all the H.264 .mp4 videos and Xvid .avi videos play great on BB Playbook, even the 1080p .mp4 plays fine. So when ripping Blu-ray and DVD movies to Playbook, H.264 mp4 or Xvid .avi is the choices here. I used to rip Blu-ray and DVD movies to PC and WD TV Live players and learned video codecs and settings well. After several conversions and tests I worked out the best settings for converting Blu-rays and DVDs to Blackberry Playbook:
Video Codec- H.264
Video Format- .mp4
Video Bitrate – 1500kbps
Frame Rate – 30fps
Audio Codec- AAC
Audio Bitrate- 128kbps
Sample Rate- 44.1khz
Audio Channel- Stereo
I choose H.264 .mp4 as the best format for Blackberry Playbook conversion because it is the recommended video format for local playback on Blackberry Playbook tablet by Blackberry official site. Although Playbook supports video playback up to 1080p, I choose 1280*720 for converting mkv to Blackberry Playbook- the tablet screen resolution is 1024*600, and I don’t plan to watch Playbook videos on HDTV via HDMI output- I have WD TV Live Plus for HD movie playback. For watching videos on Playbook tablet, 1500kbps is just all right. I find that bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss.
After everything is done, transfer and copy the result videos to BlackBerry PlayBook, then you are free to experience and view Blu-ray and DVD movies on BlackBerry PlayBook with with best HD video quality. Have Fun!
Hope the article helps.

I’m going on a trip soon and want to rip movies(mainly blu-ray movies) I own to be played on the Acer A500 I recently purchased. I have a few questions here:
Any suggestions on some easy to use, reliable software?
Any tips for the best format to use when ripping Blu-ray for Acer A500?

When it comes to ripping movies off the Blu-ray Discs for playback with the Acer Iconia Tab A500 Tablet, Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper for Mac is about as good as it gets.
Specially designed for Blu-ray video zealots who use Mac OS, the Mac Blu-ray Ripper for Acer A500 Tablet allows you set format settings to get desired file size and quality. And other Blu-ray rippers let you rip Blu-ray only but this one rips both Blu-ray and DVD.
